Notes on Psalm 21

Psa 21:1) To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!

When we wonder why some churches openly worship the Lord in praise and song; this is the reason. We worship God because of what He is and what is means to us. He is worthy of all our praise. Jesus Christ paid a big price for our salvation and should be worshiped and adored. He is our Lord, our redeemer and our provider.

(Psa 21:2) Thou hast given him his heart's desire, and hast not withholden the request of his lips. Selah.

God will answer the prayers of those that have complete faith in Him and trust Him.

Mat 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

I will add here the cause of unanswered prayer. Selfish prayers for self indulgence is not always answered.

Jam 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

Actually we should be thankful that God in His wisdom does not answer all of our selfish prayers for we do not always know what is best for us and our families.

(Psa 21:3) For thou preventest him with the blessings of goodness: thou settest a crown of pure gold on his head.

(Psa 21:4) He asked life of thee, and thou gavest it him, even length of days for ever and ever.

(Psa 21:5) His glory is great in thy salvation: honour and majesty hast thou laid upon him.

(Psa 21:6) For thou hast made him most blessed for ever: thou hast made him exceeding glad with thy countenance.

(Psa 21:7) For the king trusteth in the LORD, and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved.

Rejoicing and thanksgiving always pleases the Lord. We should be thankful for His mercy. Be thankful if we have a home, a job, a family and health. Be thankful for all good things and take nothing for granted.  I grieve when I read about so much murmuring and complaining in the US when we have so much here.  I'm sure I have been guilty of this too.

Murmuring and complaining is actually sin.

Num 14:27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

Do we complain about our president? Our pastor? our neighbors? Do we complain because we don't have as much as we want? Maybe we should try to be thankful for such as we have.

Psa 140:13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

(Psa 21:8) Thine hand shall find out all thine enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee.

(Psa 21:9) Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

(Psa 21:10) Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men.

(Psa 21:11) For they intended evil against thee: they imagined a mischievous device, which they are not able to perform.

(Psa 21:12) Therefore shalt thou make them turn their back, when thou shalt make ready thine arrows upon thy strings against the face of them.

To those both past and present who persecute God's people there will be a day of vengeance.

2Th 1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

Rev 14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
Rev 14:10
The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
Rev 14:11
And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
Rev 14:12
Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
Rev 14:13
And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

Rev 18:1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
Rev 18:2
And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
Rev 18:3
For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
Rev 18:4
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
Rev 18:5
For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
Rev 18:6
Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
Rev 18:7
How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
Rev 18:8
Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
Rev 18:9
And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
Rev 18:10
Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
Rev 18:11
And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
Rev 18:12
The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
Rev 18:13
And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
Rev 18:14
And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
Rev 18:15
The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
Rev 18:16
And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
Rev 18:17
For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
Rev 18:18
And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!
Rev 18:19
And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.
Rev 18:20
Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
Rev 18:21
And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
Rev 18:22
And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
Rev 18:23
And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
Rev 18:24
And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

(Psa 21:13) Be thou exalted, LORD, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.

No matter how things look now, good will prevail and evil will be judged. No one is going to get away with anything. All those that sin will be judged. God made a way to escape that judgment and if we fail to accept that way of escape, we will be judged for our sin.

Why do we refuse this good way? Why do so many prefer to live their own lives and go their own way? The ways of man are evil continually. God made a way that we can be free from evil. Jesus came to free us from sin.

Mat 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Mat 1:22
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
Mat 1:23
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

God with us. What a beautiful thought. God wants to dwell with us and He made a way to restore that fellowship with all those who will receive it. Jesus Christ came to bring us back to God. Repent of sin and accept this wonderful salvation through Jesus Christ today. He is the only way back to God.

This great way is so wonderful that it causes us to worship God in praise and song.

I will also add here that many do not understand "speaking with tongues." I cannot completely understand everything about speaking in tongues but I do know one thing;  sometimes our own understanding cannot comprehend the greatness of God. God gave to all who believe, the Holy Spirit. When we pray in the Spirit or in another tongue it is a way of praising God in the spirit which we can't do on our own.

When we are bursting with love for God and can't express all we want to say, the spirit will pray for us in another language. This will edify the believer and strengthen him or her in praise. It is not something to be spoken against and criticized. It is a gift of God and not something bad as some teach.

Just because we don't understand everything does not make it wrong. The gifts of the spirit did not die out with the apostles. Tongues are one way to praise the Lord when our human effort can't do it. Again this is only one part of speaking in tongues.

Praise to God whether in our own language or in an unknown language is a vital part of our worship. He is worthy of our sincere praise.
