Notes on Psalm 61
(Psa 61:1)
To the chief Musician upon Neginah, A Psalm of David. Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.A song was made out of the latter part of this verse. "Lead me to the Rock that is Higher than I". That rock is Jesus Christ. Sometimes burdens and troubles seem to overcome us. The more evil we see in the world, the more grieved we become. Much of the evil occurs among those that are deceived and do not really know how evil they are. Some even think that they are obeying their god and even kill in the name of god.
What grieves me most are those that know of the word of God and simply ignore it or make light of it. They pass it off as a book of the past. Most nations have laws on their books that reflect the ten commandments yet they no longer look to the bible as their guide because they are so afraid of being too religious.
Actually it is the failure of the church of the past that has caused this judgment to fall upon us. Look at church history and we see that the reason so many are afraid of us it our history. In the past the church and state were entwined. As a result the church lost their original calling and controlled the government. They used force to get converts instead of the preaching of the gospel. If anyone disagreed, they were persecuted. The gospel needs to be preached now more than ever. We must boldly proclaim all the bible and teach the word. We must warn, testify and pray that souls will be saved from sin and turn to Christ for salvation. Yet we must not ever cross that line of force. There is no way we can force someone to be saved. One can only be saved or "born again" by the spirit of God. Man cannot do this. If we tried to force salvation upon even one person, they would not be truly saved but only converted to a set of ideas.
In many countries today though the fear of theocratic governments have caused them to go to far in the other direction and reject all religious values. Sooner or later there will be no law of righteousness and sin will triumph. Sin will bring forth death not only to individuals but death to the countries and the world. We will destroy each other if we continue to reject God and His word. His word will protect us from evil. It is all we have left in this world of compromise and sin. It is the only light in the middle of darkness.
Take just one commandment. "Thou shalt not kill." If we reject that one, what happens? First we begin to kill the unborn. This has happened because we don't always want the responsibility of caring for a child so we kill it. Next will come euthanasia. This is the killing of the elderly because we don't want the expense of caring for the aging. Next will come killing the mentally ill. Next will come killing those that hurt the environment. Next will come killing those that disagree with the established government in control. Where does it end? This was Hitler's mentality. He killed those that opposed his régime or those that he thought were unproductive or not worth the trouble to take care of.
I hear people wanting Rush Limbaugh to be taken off the air. Okay so you decide to take away his right to free speech because you don't like his speech. The same people who want to silence Rush would create a great cry of unfair, unfair, discrimination if they were silenced. So in reality you don't want free speech, you only want free speech for those that agree with your philosophy.
Sweden and Canada want to silence preachers who preach against homosexuality. They call it a hate speech. What is hate? Is hate wanting to help people overcome sin so that they can inherit eternal life? Homosexuality is only one sin, there are many others that are hurting us. This sin is shortening their lives and hastening disease. It is dangerous. They die young in most cases.
I've known four homosexuals in the last ten years. Out of those four. Three are already dead because of aids. The fourth is still living. 3 out of 4 of those that I personally know of or came in contact with is hard to argue with. The three that died were very young. I saw one of them just before he died and he was very thin, frail and was the most pitiful person I've ever seen. Had I had the chance to meet him when he was strong and healthy and had I had the chance to foresee his end and warn him of what would occur, would it have been hate to tell him that Jesus Christ could save him and deliver him from such a state?
In Sweden and Canada I could have been sentenced to jail for telling them something that could not only save their souls but save their lives.
If Jesus can save the homosexual and deliver him from that particular sin and all other sins, then why are so many still the same and not changed?
For this reason. In order to be saved from sin or any sin, one must admit, acknowledge and recognize that they are sinners in need of salvation. That is the first step. You can't come to Jesus to be saved from sin if you don't recognize that you have sinned first. We don't go to a doctor for a cure for a broken leg, if we don't think we have a broken leg. Salvation and eternal life comes to us when we recognize that we are sinners and in need of salvation. If we continually tell the homosexual that he is okay the way he is, then he will never be saved because he does not recognize that Jesus can save him and deliver him from that sin. So he stays the way he is and at the point of death, he dies in sin.
Whether that sin is homosexuality, adultery, fornication, stealing, killing, lying, deceiving, coveting, idolatry. It is sin. We are born with the nature to sin and if we do not come to Christ for salvation, we will remain sinners and die in sin thereby entering eternity without God and without salvation. Jesus died in our place and for our sins so that we don't have to be lost. We can have eternal life and be "born again" by the spirit of God. We can be changed and have the spirit of God living within us giving us victory over sin both past and in the future. We have the power to choose. We can choose to yield to God's spirit or return to the sin Jesus saved us from. This is why some go back into sin and some go on to live for God and reject sin. The choice is either putting Jesus first and yielding the the Holy Spirit or giving up and returning to our life before Jesus came into our lives.
How can a message that tells a sinner that he can be saved and have eternal life be a hate speech? A true preacher of the gospel that wants to see souls saved and have eternal life do not hate. They see the sin that is killing the soul and are there to try to save the soul, yet in some parts of the world they are jailed, killed and persecuted because they dare to tell the truth. Jesus said that these thing would happen and they are happening.
(Psa 61:3)
For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. To those who are faithful in God's calling, God provides a shelter and a comfort. The Holy Spirit will comfort those that choose to please God rather than the world.
(Psa 61:4)
I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah. This is hope and salvation. Those that fear God and trust in His word will have eternal life. They may lose this temporary life on the earth but they will live forever and those that reject the gospel will be lost forever. They do not win.
(Psa 61:6)
Thou wilt prolong the king's life: and his years as many generations. We must encourage one another to stay faithful in the days ahead. I don't know what is going to happen in the world. Do not be troubled by all these things because they will pass. Jesus warned that perilous times would come. Men shall be lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God. Evil men shall get worse. There will be storms, troubles, persecutions and attacks but he or she that endures to the end shall be saved.
Jesus promised that he will never leave or forsake those that are faithful in Him.
We cannot trust in material wealth, we cannot trust in the mighty armies of men, we cannot trust in leaders of countries. Our trust must be in the Lord and are guide must be the word He has provided us throughout the centuries. He preserved it for us. There are false messiahs and false teachers saying that their way is the way. We better stick to the bible and the way God made for us. There is no other way. Many have said that Jesus failed and that God chose someone else to fulfill the will of God. This is false. Many shall come in His name and claim to be the Christ. Believe it not. Jesus Christ came to die for sin and will return as lightening shines from the east unto the west. Don't look to anyone as the Messiah except Jesus. No other so-called messiah can take away sins and give you eternal life. Reject any other way of salvation for it has no power over sin. They may look good for a while and seem to bring a message of peace but it is a false peace. There is no other way of eternal salvation. Reject any gospel that offers prosperity now, the good life now, and power now. The salvation that occurs now is within the inner man, the salvation of the soul and deliverance from sin. It is a gospel of faith in Jesus Christ. Anything else is a false gospel. Jesus does not promise us success and prosperity in this life. Some of us may have that to use for the glory of God but many are suffering persecution, poverty and death for the gospel's sake. Our hope now is eternal not here on earth. Our goal now should be to get people saved from their SINS. Sin is killing us spiritually. Reject this false peace. True peace is inward after we repent of sin and receive God's spirit by faith in Jesus Christ. There is no other way.
