Notes on Psalm 65

(Psa 65:1) To the chief Musician, A Psalm and Song of David. Praise waiteth for thee, O God, in Sion: and unto thee shall the vow be performed.

David must have been some singer. He wrote so many songs to praise God for His faithfulness and to ask God for help in time of trouble..

(Psa 65:2) O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.

David knew that God would hear his prayer. Unto God all flesh, all nations and all people can come to Him for help. Unfortunately all do not come. Many try to explain away God and find alternative solutions to the origins of the universe.

We see in our world, good and evil. We see those that do good and those that cause evil. We see disease and health, we see peace and war. There definitely are two forces. One is good and one is evil working against each other. What people fail to see is that sin causes the evil. Sin in the heart causes the wicked to prevail. Sin causes greed, selfishness, cheating, wars, divorce, lust, rape, murder and stealing. Without God there is no restraint upon what people will do. We fail to realize that we need God more than we can even imagine.

Our laws were originally based on God's word. How would we know, "Thou shalt not kill," except God told us it was wrong? To those who do not believe in God, I ask, where did your conscience come from? How do you know to do good or bad? It comes from our God.

Not everyone that does not believe in God is necessarily bad. The reason though is Christian influence that just happens to be in some places. That influences the world around them and restrains evil. If you study neighborhoods over the years, you can find out that if a good Christian family who truly lives what they believe, moves out of a neighborhood and there is no other Christian family around, the neighborhood will go downhill. You will see crime increase. However, if a praying family lives around you, evil is restrained. There is power in faith in God.

(Psa 65:3) Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away.

David recognized that God had a way to cleanse him from sin. He knew that through his seed God was going to send a savior from sin.

(Psa 65:4) Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.

God actually chooses us and brings us to Him by His Holy Spirit. When that Spirit draws us, we can receive salvation.

(Psa 65:5) By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea:

Salvation is available to all because of the mercy and grace of Jesus Christ. All who believe can be saved from sin and receive eternal life. However, it is the Spirit of God that draws us to Jesus Christ. That is why true Christianity is through Jesus. The Spirit of God first convicts of sin, brings us to repentance, saves from sin and then imparts the Holy Spirit to the believer. This is a gift of God and is available, not by our own good works but by our faith in Jesus Christ and the death He suffered on the cross for our sins. He paid for our sins by shedding His own blood. We must believe this and receive Jesus Christ by faith to receive salvation from sin. We must believe that Jesus Christ also rose from the dead and is now making intercession for all who believe. He is now at the Father's right hand and has all authority given Him by God the Father.

(Psa 65:6) Which by his strength setteth fast the mountains; being girded with power:
(Psa 65:7) Which stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people.

When you see the storms come, the roar of the sea, the armies of men etc., God has power over all.

(Psa 65:8) They also that dwell in the uttermost parts are afraid at thy tokens: thou makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice.
(Psa 65:9) Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.

It is the mercy of God that provides food for the hungry.

(Psa 65:10) Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof.
(Psa 65:11) Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness.
(Psa 65:12) They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills rejoice on every side.
(Psa 65:13) The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.

Blessings come to those that put their trust in the Lord. Trials of faith may come but the Lord sees us through it all. God provides for His children.
