The Word - To live by

Matthew 4
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

We are not to strive only for food and things in this life only but live by the word of God. We need to allow the word to guide us into the right way to do the other necessary things. Our lives would be more fruitfull if we took heed to the word first before heading out into the world of making a living and pursuing our goals.

John 6
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Sowing only to the flesh and ignoring the Spirit and the word profits nothing in the long run. The words arre spirit and life. The word quickens (makes alive).

Acts 5
19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

The angel frees Peter from prison and tells him to go speak the words of this life. The word of God is life. The word is everlasting life. Peter was to speak and tell others how to receive true life. Preaching the word was what landed him in prison, yet he was instructed to go and keep preaching that word. The word was more important than the law of the religious leaders who forbade the teaching of the word. The word was more important than Peter's physical discomfort of being beaten and landing in prison. The word brought salvation and eternal life to the receivers.

Philippians 2
16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

Holding forth the word of life. To keep living by the word and preaching the word to everyone who would hear, would result in saving souls from being lost eternally. The early apostles and preachers cared more for souls being saved than they did their own comfort which was forfeited when they were continually beaten and imprisoned for preaching the gospel.

James 1
18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

The word makes us new creatures in Christ Jesus. The word saves and makes us alive in the spirit, whole and fit to inherit the kingdom of God. The word is life everlasting. The word is necessary to escape eternal death.
