Word - Weapon
A Weapon
Jeremiah 5
14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I
will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.
The word is powerful and devours those that oppose it. It exposes false prophets, brings
conviction, brings judgment and exposes sin. It is like a flame of fire, which burns
everything in its path. The true word of God is more powerful than the greatest power that
mankind can possibly produce. At His word, it is done. At His word the rain from heaven
fell in the days of Noah. At His word the dead rise, the sick are healed and fire may fall
from heaven. At His word the earth and heavens were created. We must never underestimate
the power of the Word of God.
Jeremiah 23
29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the
rock in pieces?
30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every
one from his neighbour.
31 Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He
saith.
32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them,
and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor
commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.
The word is like a hammer and beats and crushes. Take heed of how you use the Word of God.
It must not be used to deceive or teach false ways.
God is pictured here as being very angry at false prophets and teachers who misuse the
word or who say things like, "God says," when He didn't say it. We must be very
careful not to add too or take away from the word of God. We must be careful also not to
claim that God says something or revealed to us something unless it is really so. God
takes it very seriously when we teach something as His word when it is really our own
word.
Ezekiel 37:7
7 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and
behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.
The word gives life. At the word of God life was given to dead bodies, flesh came upon
bones. He made man and woman by his word.
Acts 19
20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.
The word is full of life and power. It will accomplish whatever the will of God is. It
will not return to the Lord empty. What an important job a preacher or teacher has. What
an important responsibility they have also. The teacher of truth is a vessel of the Holy
Spirit to accomplish the will of God and bring salvation to all that will hear.
Romans 1:16
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto
salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
The word brings salvation and has the power to save all that believe it. We sometimes
stress the importance of education so that we can get good paying jobs. That is well and
good but in reality the word of God is more important. It brings salvation and eternal
life. We see so many seeking the education and neglecting the more important one. Without
the word of God all education, money, power and material possessions are in vain.
Ephesians 6
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of
God:
The word is a sword, a weapon of defense.
Jesus used the word against the devil when he was tempted in the wilderness.
Hebrews 4
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow,
and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The word exposes, brings all things to light, brings truth and discerns good from evil.
Never take lightly the word of God. We really need to study and devour the word of God.
